Server Rooms & Network Infrastructure
Server Solutions
Racks, switching, storage, cooling and backup, built so the room stays cold, documented and quiet, with recovery a procedure rather than a panic.
Overview
The room that everything else reports to
Server rooms tend to accumulate rather than get designed. A switch here, a NAS on a shelf, a UPS under the desk, cable bundles nobody dares touch. It works right up until a drive fails, a breaker trips, or the AC goes out over a long weekend.
Wiscom builds and rebuilds server and equipment rooms as engineered spaces: proper racks and cabinets, structured patching, front-to-back airflow, monitored environment, conditioned and backed-up power, and cable management that makes the next change a ten-minute job.
We handle the active side too: switching, routing, firewalls, VLAN and segmentation design, storage, virtualization hosts and backup. We also relocate entire rooms during moves and renovations with a cut plan that minimizes downtime.
Where we deploy it
- Server rooms & MDF
- Branch IDF closets
- Small data centers
- Office relocations
- Manufacturing plants
- Healthcare IT
- Education districts
- Disaster recovery sites

Capabilities
What this service actually includes.
Not a category heading, but the specific work we self-perform under it.
Rack & room build-out
Open-frame racks and enclosed cabinets, seismic and floor anchoring, ladder rack and overhead pathway, vertical managers, blanking panels and containment so cold air goes through equipment.
Network hardware
Switch stacks, routers, firewalls and wireless controllers installed and configured: VLAN segmentation, trunking, link aggregation, spanning tree, QoS for voice and video, and out-of-band management access.
Storage & virtualization
NAS and SAN deployment, RAID configuration, hypervisor hosts, shared storage networking and capacity planning against real growth rather than a guess.
Backup & recovery
On-site and offsite backup design to a 3-2-1 standard, immutable and air-gapped copies, documented recovery point and recovery time objectives, and restore testing, because an untested backup is a hope, not a plan.
Power & cooling
Rack UPS and managed PDUs, generator coordination, dedicated cooling or supplemental units, and environmental monitoring for temperature, humidity, water and door position with alerting.
Migrations & relocations
Server room moves, consolidations and data center relocations with a labeled cut plan, staged rebuild, after-hours execution and a verified rollback position at every step.

Specification
How we decide what to specify.
The reference table our estimators and engineers work from when scoping this service.
| Layer | What we install | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Physical | Racks, cabinets, pathway, patching, labeling | Change becomes routine instead of risky |
| Power | UPS, PDUs, dedicated circuits, generator tie-in | Outages stop taking the business with them |
| Environmental | Cooling, monitoring, leak and temp alerts | You hear about a hot room before hardware dies |
| Network | Switching, routing, firewall, segmentation | Traffic is fast, isolated and troubleshootable |
| Data | Storage, RAID, virtualization hosts | Capacity and performance match the workload |
| Continuity | Backups, replication, tested restores | A bad day stays a bad day, not a closure |
Close-out
What you receive when we’re done.
Documentation is part of the scope, not a favor. Every server solutions project closes out with the same package, so the next person to touch the system, whether that is us or somebody else, can work from facts.
- Rack elevation drawings, front and rear
- Network topology diagram and IP/VLAN schedule
- Labeled patching with a port-to-port schedule
- Environmental monitoring with alert recipients configured
- Documented backup schedule and a witnessed test restore
- Configuration backups and credentials handed over securely
FAQ
Server Solutions: common questions
Usually most of it can. We stage a new rack and patching alongside the existing one, move circuits in planned groups, and schedule the genuinely disruptive cut-overs after hours. We will be honest about which moves require a maintenance window. Some always will.
Many organizations land in a hybrid. Even in a cloud-first environment you still need switching, firewalls, wireless controllers, local storage for cameras and video, and a solid local network. The room gets smaller; it does not go away.
We test restores. Backup software reporting success only proves a job ran. We perform and document a real restore at commissioning and recommend a recurring test schedule, because the first time you discover a backup is unusable should never be during an incident.
Yes. Environmental sensors for temperature, humidity, water and door position, plus UPS and network device monitoring, can alert your team, ours, or both. We set thresholds that warn early enough to act rather than merely confirming the damage.
